Annual Meeting September 22
Join us for our annual meeting on September 22nd, 2018 at 10am at the Butternut Shelter in Emma McCarthy Lee Park. We will share the achievements of the Friends group over the last year and give an update on ongoing efforts in coordination with the City of Ames to develop a management plan for EMLP and Munn Woods. In addition, we will solicit your ideas for projects to be done by the Friends group over the next year, and hope to recruit 2 members to fill recently vacated spots on the board. See you on the 22nd!

April 7: 10 AM work session.
April 21: noon potluck in the park, 1 PM spring wildflower walk.
May 5: 10 AM work session.
May 12: 10 AM board meeting
June 2: 10 AM work session.

August 4: 10 AM work session.
August 25 10 AM board meeting.
September 1: 10 AM work session
September 22: 10 AM annual membership meeting.
October 6: 10 AM work session.
October 13: noon potluck, 1 PM nature walk.
November 3: 10 AM board meeting.
General Membership Meeting on Sat, Oct 21
You are invited to the Third Annual General Membership Meeting of the Friends of Emma McCarthy Lee Park and Munn Woods on Saturday October 21st at 10:00 am at the Butternut Shelter, near the tennis courts. Please bring friends and family.
“Friends” works cooperatively with the City of Ames and local groups to improve, protect, and enhance the Park and Woods. A short business meeting will be held followed by description of this year’s exciting achievements and discussion of plans for the future.
ACHIEVEMENTS
- Trailhead Message Center for the west end of the trail (J Arbuckle);
- Bench near message center (Burchinal Family);
- ISU student class developing management plan for the 4-acre nature preserve (Haldre);
- Prairie strip opposite the Butternut shelter (Robin, Ariya, Donna);
- Planting butterfly bushes by tennis courts (Gary, Mark, Robin).
Keith Abraham, Director of Ames Parks and Recreation, and Joshua Thompson, Parks and Facilities Superintendent, have been very helpful in providing counsel and support for the Friends of Emma McCarthy Lee and Woods contributing to the success of the volunteer workers.
This meeting is an opportunity to become a member or renew your membership and to volunteer to be on the Board, as well as suggesting activities for next year. We hope to see you at 10 AM Saturday October 21!

Friends Workday this Saturday!
We will be having a Friends of the Park workday this Saturday, October 8 at 10 AM. We will meet at the lower parking area at the bottom of the hill in Lee park. We aim to install a second bench, clean up the gardens by the tennis courts, and pick up trash. You are welcome to bring gloves, wheel barrows, shovels, hoes, big garbage bags, etc. Questions? Workparty/Potluck postponed
It’s not a great day for a workparty, so we have postponed it until next weekend, May 7th.

Join the Friends of Lee Park and Munn Woods Facebook group, and get to know the other friends, hear about Park/Woods-related news, and post or enjoy pictures of wildflowers and fauna seen in the Park and Woods.
Upcoming events!
Saturday April 23 at 9 AM: We invite you to join members of Friends and others interested in the Park and Woods in a narrated trail walk.
Saturday April 30 from 9:30 to 11:30 AM: Join other Friends members and volunteers in a work session. Meet at Butternut Shelter in Lee Park. We’ll be removing honeysuckle, pulling garlic mustard, working on the gardens, and picking up trash.
Saturday, April 30 from 12 to 2: We’ll be celebrating our accomplishments after the work session in a potluck lunch at 12 noon at Butternut shelter in Lee Park.
